Kochi : Thousands from film fraternity and beyond congregated to pay tribute to veteran actress KPAC Lalita. Her body was brought from her son Sidharth’s residence in Thripunitura to Koothambalam on Layam Road for public homage.
The mortal remains will be kept at Koothambalam up to 11 am, then moved to Thrissur where it will laid for respects at Sangeetha Nadaka Academy hall. From there, the legendary actress will be fetched to Vadakanchery residence “Orma” for final rest, The cremation will be held in home premises at 5 pm with state honours.
KPAC Lalita's death marks loss of an actress transcending generations, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Departing from us is a very close one, said superstar Mamooty in his condolence. Mega star Mohnanlal had reached Sidhharth’s house last night.
The legendary actress died last night aged 74 after prolonged illness.
With an acting career spanning 5 decades, KPAC Lalita has acted in over 500 films, won 2 national awards and 4 state awards. Born as Maheswari to Anantan Nair and Bhargaviamma - natives of Ramapuram’s Kadakkal - on 10 March, 1947, she was named after deity her parents offered bhajans to for birth of a child. Lalita was fond of dancing since early childhood days and gave her first stage performance at Ramapuram school. At the renownedKPAC drama troupe, Lalita started off as a singer, before playing notable theatre roles and then debuting into films to became household name over the decades.
She was married to renowned director Late Bharathan. Children : Daughter Sreekutty and actor-director son Sidharth Bharathan
