CHENNAI : Tamil Superstar Vijay continues to be grilled by Income Tax sleuths over alleged tax evasions. He was brought home by tax home from his shooting location at Kadloor where his questioning has run into 17 hours so far.
The actor is cooperative with the officials at his residence, Asst Commissioner of Income Tax told a newspaper. Vijay was taken into custody in follow-up of the raids conducted at offices of producers to his last released film Beagle. The taxmen believe that Vijay accepted crores or rupees in payment, with absolutely no records at Beagle producers’ Aegis Entertainment offices.
I-T department continues to raid Aegis Entertainment offices located in several parts of the city. Apart from Vijay’s residence in Chennai, the sleuths also carried out raids at his houses in Maudhurai and Saligram. Officials reportedly unearthed Rs 40 crore from Vijay’s Chennai home and Rs 17 crore from his Maudhurai residence. The figures will be released once the raids conclude, they said.
Vijay’s film Mersal had shots criticizing GST. Following the release, BJP’s national leaders came down heavily with their criticism on the star to the extent of taunts with communal tinge calling him Vijay Joseph. It became fairly known that the movie scenes critical of GST had enraged BJP seniors.
