OSCAR 2020 :Joaquin Phoenix and Renee Zellweger Are Best Actors; Parasite, Best Movie

At the 2020 Oscars held Sunday, Joaquin Phoenix won best actor award for his role in Arthur Fleck in Joker He claimed the top prize beating out nominees Antonia Bandreas(Pain and Glory), Leonardo DiCaprio(Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Adam Driver (Mariiage Story) an Jonathan Pyrce (The Two Popes). 

This is Phoenix’s first Oscar win, having been nominated three times before for The Master (2013), Walk The Line (2006) and Gladiator (2001).


The honor for best actress was taken by Renee Zellweger for her portrayal of the late icon in the biopic “Judy”.


In her acceptance speech, Renee paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Judy Garlan, who died at age 47 in 1968.


In the best actress category, Renee beat out competition including Cynthia Ervio(Harriet), Scarlett Johansson(Marriage Story), Saorise Ronan (Little Women) and Charlize Theron(Bombshell).


Parasite

South Korean satire Parasite won the best international film Oscar defeating contenders including Pedro Almodovar’s mid-life memoir Pain and Glory and French social comment drama Les Miserables.

Parasite is a comedy-thriller about a hard-up family who infiltrate the lives of a much richer one. Directed by Bong Joon-ho, it follows his two successful forays into English language film making : Snowpiercer and Okja.
