The Young Karl Marx Garners Much Applause; 7 Indian Films Screened on Saturday

Thiruvananthapuram> ‘The Young Karl Marx’, which had earned several honorary awards at various international festivals, captivated the audience at the 22nd International Film Festival of Kerala. The film directed by Raoul Peck was screened in front of 2000 spectators, as part of the World Cinema category.

Italian director Raoul Peck, while narrating the brutalities faced by the working class in Europe during the Nineteenth Century, travels parallel to portray the poverty and the exploitation of the labourers by the capitalists. The life saga of Marx between the years 1842 and 1847, ‘The Young Karl Marx’ draws fairly the family life of Marx and his personal bonding with Friedrich Engels and the birth of the renowned Communist Manifesto.

Seven Indian films from five categories were showcased on Saturday. Lijo Jose Pellissery’s‘Angamaly Diaries’, Kundan Shah’s ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, Dar Gai’s‘Three and a Half’, Salimkumar Koovaparambil Gangadharan’s‘The Black Jew’, and MostofaSarwarFarooki’s ‘No Bed of Roses’ were screened. As a tribute to the late legendary filmmakers I.V. Sasi and P Bhaskaran, their ‘Aaroodam’and ‘Kallichellama’ were screened. Overall, 67 films were screened at theatres across the capital city.
