Mumbai : Spooked by rapidly spreading Omicron on global front, domestic markets went for a free fall Monday morning. Nifty50 hit a low of 16,653 points and Sensex lost over 1,100 points amid heaving selling.
Companies with higher global exposure were exceptionally strained - Motherson, Sumi, Tata Motors and Bajaj auto were down 5 percent, 4 percent and 1.9 percent respectively. Sectorwise, the metals, real estate and financials dragged the benchmarks lower.
All sectors, including IT, are bleeding from overall negative sentiment.
Biggest losers of the day are Bandhan Bank, SAIL, Jindal Steel and Bajaj Finance on Nifty Index. Twins HDFC and HDFC Bank with high foreign portfolio investor participation of 72 percent and 39 percent were down 2.5 and 2.9 percent respectively
