Kannur : Police on Wednesday arrested father and a mosque priest for allegedly causing 11-year-old child’s death by subjecting her to witchcraft instead of fetching medical attention. Arrested in the case are the victim, Fathima’s, father Sathaar and Imam at Kunjupally mosque on Azad road, Muhammad Uvais.
In the case of unnatural case police registered, both men are charged with manslaughter bereft intent to murder. Fathima suffered from fever. However, there was no visit to doctor or medication given. Instead, she was made to drink ritualised water and hear out reading of the Quran, as part of black magic treatment.
Fatima's health eventually deteriorated and she was admitted to a private hospital Monday morning where child died shortly after. Authorities at the district hospital fell suspicious of the death when Fathima’s body arrived for postmortem and informed the police. In the investigations that followed, police unraveled the tragic build-up to what would have been a preventable death of a tender-aged girl.
