1707 Non-vaccinated Teachers: Those With Health Conditions Must Produce Certificate

Thiruvananthapuram : The government released numbers of non-vaccinated teachers in sate. There are 1707 teaching and non-teaching school staff who haven’t taken their shots, said Education Minister V Sivankutty, speaking at press conference held Saturday morning. Special schools in state shall open from 8th, the minister added.

Of the 1707 not vaccinated, 1066 are teachers from the  LP, UP and High School segment. Also 189 non-teaching staff from these sections are non-vaccinated. In the Higher Secondary section, 200 teaching and 23 non-teaching staff have not taken vaccine. 229 teachers at VHSS too are non-vaccinated however, all non-teaching staff in this segment have received their shots. Majority of non-vaccinated staff belong to Malappuram while Wayanad has the least number.

Students’ health is prime priority, hence the insistence on vaccine, said the minister. Initially, the numbers received for non-vaccinated staff was 5000. Later, up on government urging inoculation, many of them got themselves inoculated. Those not yet injected have been asked for reason thereof. Those with underlying health conditions must produce medical certificate or alternatively go for RT-PCR test each week.

Teachers who remain un-cooperative by choice may proceed on leave without pay, the minister said.

On the plus I admission front the minister said, 72 temporary classes shall be sanctioned - Science (1), Humanities(61) and Commerce (10)
