THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will hand over appointment orders towards 195 posts designated for meritorious sportspersons, in a ceremony to be held at 3 pm on 20 Feb, at Central Stadium in the capital. It is the first time in State’history that, sports quota appointments are happening in such large numbers, at one go.
Current appointments are being made from rank lists against unfilled vacancies advertised between 2010 -14. These appointments remained pending during previous government’s tenure. 50 persons are to be inducted into service each year. In keeping with this norm, rank lists were published between 2010 and 2014 with vacancies that tallied up to 250. Hockey star PR Sreejesh was appointed to one of the vacancies and appointment to another slot is under consideration by High Court.
There are instances of one sports person featuring in more than one rank list. As a result. there are only 195 vacancies in the rank list. Steps will be taken to prevent further delay to filling these posts. Applications against rank lists of each previous year shall be scruitinised to prepare a new list now.
Recently, 11 sports stars from the Santosh trophy team who remained without employment were recruited into Public Education as LD Clerks (Super Numeric). Another 58 sportspersons received appointment orders from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan early this week.
