Kochi : Early voting surges in Thrikkakara with rush witnessed at booths early morning 7 am continuing to grow. 20 percent voter turnout was recorded three hours into polling i.e. at 10 am. There are a total of 239 booths. Candidates are touring booths after casting their own ballots.
Left candidate, Dr. Jo Joseph, voted early along with wife Daya Pascal at their booth in Padhumugal. To the waiting media, Dr. Jo said, after voting, he was cent percent confident of a sweeping Left victory.
Meanwhile, UDF candidate, Uma Thomas, cast her vote at Pipeline’s 50th booth in Palarivattom.
Roughly 2 lakh people have exercised their right to vote in Thrikkakara. A total of eight candidates, including those from the 3 fronts, are in the fray.
Thrikkakara, a newly formed constituency back in 2011, saw UDF innings halved in 2016 as compared to vote majority it secured in the first election. In the elections of 2021 too, UDF failed to make it to that mark.
The constituency comprises Thrikkakara municipality and 22 divisions of Kochi Corporation. Total voters figure at 1,96,805 of whom, 95,274 are men and 1,01,530 women. The constituency also has a transgender vote. Voting is progressing with Covid protocols in place.
