Pune : At least 26 people have died, including three children, after a private bus headed to Pune in Maharashtra caught fire on Samrudhi Mahamarg Expressway at dawn. The bus was travelling from Nagpur to Pune. The incident took place around 1:30 am in Buldhana district.
25 bodies have been extracted from inside the charred bus. A total of 32 people were on board the bus. 6 - 8 people suffered burns and have been admitted to Buldhana Civil hospital.
The driver of the bus survived. The bus overturned after a tyre burst and fire ensued, he said. However, police are investigating to find what exactly occurred.
The death toll was initially reported as 25 and later upgraded to 26.
