Amaravati : Andhra Pradesh will have only Amaravati as state capital, announced Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday. The decision came about at an emergency meeting of the cabinet chaired by Jagan Mohan. The cabinet decided it will repeal the two laws passed in June of 2020 proposing two additional capitals – Vishakapanam as the executive capital and Kurnool as the judicial capital for the state.
The cabinet decision was conveyed to the High Court that was hearing a batch of petitions against decision for three capitals to the state. Petitioners, numbering over 100, comprised numerous farmers whose fraternity gave up to 34,000 acres of fertile lands to facilitate the government plan for three capitals.
