Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala is entering phase-3 of Covid-19 pandemic, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday. We have been largely successful in mitigating infections through safe distancing, mask, quarantine and reverse quarantine.
If we continue to adhere to these guidelines, we could prevent escalation on big scale. We must follow set rules voluntarily. Also, we must encourage others to abide by preventive guidelines. Everybody should become proactive campaigners of health and safety awareness, said CM
Three people died of coronavirus up to 4 May. Today that tally has climbed to 20. Most among the deceased were arrivals from outside, aged or had pre-existing serious health conditions, the minister said.
Currently 1.5 percent among those arriving from overseas test positive for Covid-19. The total for travelers from abroad will likely cross 2 lakh in coming days, meaning the number of active cases would increase correspondingly.
A 2 percent infection rate among arrivals would translate to 4,000 virus patients. If safety rules are neglected, larger number of people could catch infection from these persons. And, the transmission could pass on and on in similar fashion resulting in community spread that could be disastrous, said CM at the media briefing on Wednesday.
