KAlpetta: Based on tips from neighbours in the refugee camp, four members of a family were rescued in Wayanad’s Padavettikunnu. The rescuees, Johny and family, ran a home-stay facility and were stranded in their house for four days now, after road in the area collapsed following landslide. Johny’s wife Jomol has injuries to her legs. All four were airlifted to safer ground before being transported to hospital.
Earlier, the Army personnel had retrieved bodies from the area and according to their assessment, there were none alive in the area. But up on finding the stranded family in Padavetti now, search has been heightened to see if more remain trapped in the region.
Meanwhile death toll from the devastating landslides has climbed to 308 and there are more than 200 still missing. With Bailey Bridge restored, search efforts have gained pace. 40 teams, split into six zones, are conducting searches in Chooramala and Mundakkal.
