5 More Diagnosed With Omicron; State Tally Now 29

Thiruvananthapuram ; Five more persons have been detected infected by Omicron, said Health Minister Veena George Thursday. The new patients comprise 4 overseas arrivals at Ernakulam airport and one Kozhikode native.  Omicron positive travelers from abroad include two persons aged 28 and 24 from UK, one from Albania (35) and another from Nigeria (40).

The 28-year-old from UK is a Kottayam native.  The 21-year-old Kozhikode native flew in from Bengaluru airport to Nedumbassery. The total tally for Omicron infections in state is 29, of which, 17 are incomers from high-risk countries, 10 from low-risk nations and two who caught the variant from contact.

Those testing positive for Omicron arrived in Ernakulam on 15, 19 and 20 this month. The arrival from Nigeria is a Pathanamthitta native who flew in on 14 December and was on home quarantine before confirming infection on 18th.  His parents, wife and children are named on contact list.

Kozhikode native positive for Omicron arrived on the 17th from Bengaluru and reached his home district of Kozhikode on the 19th. Since he tested positive for covid,   fluid samples were sent to Rajiv Gandhi Centre For Biotechnology for testing. All of the infected persons are under treatment at various hospitals. Contact list is being prepared pertaining to all, the minister said.
