Thiruvananthapuram : 42.7 percent of the state population was found harbouring Covid antibodies,, according to a study by Indian Council Of Medical Research(ICMR) in the first week of July. Also, 50 percent of the people were found never to have contracted Covid so far, the study cited, forecasting a likelihood of 50 percent in state turning positive in time ahead.
The national average for infected is 67.6 % of the population i.e. two out of every three persons were infected and either recovered or died from which also means one in every 28 cases is national positivity average, in Kerala one in every five person turns up positive, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the Assembly. This also indicates effective testing across the state. Sero prevalence survey are being conducted by blood sampling among volunteers to come presence of antibodies. Antibodies would be present in those who have recovered from Covid as well as those who have received vaccine, CM explained.
Sero prevalence survey determines what level of immunity there exists across population. The survey drew 400 persons including health workers from each of 70 districts across 21 states. A total of 28,975 people above ages 6 were tested in the survey, said CM.
