THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The Health department created a whopping 5771 new posts in the past four years and carried out appointments thereof – a milestone in the history of Kerala’s Public Health System. The new posts mostly pertained to offices in the Health Department and Medical Education institutions under varied Medical Colleges. A slew of 273 appointments at Kasaragod Medical College on Wednesday upped the new posts from previous 5,498 to 5,771.
LDF has created history by putting together the public health care and medical education on tracks with job appointments, in the aftermath of a public health care network devastated by UDF by strategically keeping vacant posts unfilled during its tenure and reducing Medical Colleges to mere propaganda,
Adequate appointments are crucial and part of government’s mission, not withstanding pressures of economic crunch, to scale up state hospital facilities and transform them into institutions capacitated to handle health scenarios of any kind and enormity. It is result of such determination that the world took note of Kerala’s health care mechanism, during the Covid pandemic climax and suggested it as model to pattern after for governments across the globe.
Under initiatives from the Health Minister KK Shailaja, nurses, doctors and lab staff were recruited to posts at Medical Colleges and rural health centres around the state.
2721 posts came into being when the primary health care centres (PHCs) had to be converted to Family Health Centres under Ardram Mission. Staffs inducted for the scheme requirement were : 935 doctors, 965 nurses, 673 lab technicians, 184 pharmacy staff and 402 other employees. Another 2306 posts opened up when the govt Medical Colleges were upgraded to hi-tech specialties.
477 new jobs were created to bring Paripally Medical College to reality. New appointments also became crucial to see some of the medical colleges upgrade to international standards. These news posts beginning with 254 at Kozhikode, 205 in Kottayam and 82 in Alappuzha were extended to at most medical colleges. Medical Universities, the authority that helms all medical colleges in the state, also saw 176 new posts created in their campuses.
