59 Responders to Karipur Crash Contract Covid; 50 Cops in Malappuram Too Test +ve

Karipur : A total of 59 rescue personnel and volunteers who  attended the air crash site in Karipur have tested positive for Covid - an increase of 39 from the total 20 diagnosed a few days back.  An RTPC test was carried out among 1300 residents of Manjeri Kalikauv, Menjenta and Ramanadukkara, of which 877 results have been received so far. Post the plane tragedy, the Health Department had also set up 5 centres for testing responders at the site. The infection tally comprises rescue workers and people who mingled with them, police personnel, fire force employees and health workers.

Incidentally, coronavirus cases in  Kondatti region are on the rise since a month after fish workers there became first victims of the virus.

There is a marked increase in cases from contact among members of the police force. About 50 staff across district’s  Police Superintend Office, Ministerial, Crime Branch and Special Branch offices have tested positive for the virus. The results from tests carried out at SP office on 17th arrived Thursday, showing the added numbers of infected cases in the department. The District Police Chief, U. Abdul Kareemm, was confirmed positive on 13th , although the antigen tests conducted among all staff there shortly before had  come negative on the virus. The infected personnel are currently undergoing treatment at Manjeri  Medical College and special treatment centre in Keezhatoor.
