6 Child Deaths In A Family Over 9 Years; Burials Without Postmortem ; Police Open Up Probe

MALAPPURAM: Police in Thirur are looking up deaths of 9 children, all belonging to same household , that occurred in a timeline of 9 years, at Chembra Parenakkattu in Malappuram’s Thirur.

 

Those dead were children of Paranakkad Tharamal Rafeeq and Sabna couple, all aged below 5 years. Suspicions rose following death of  three-month old bahy child at the house today.  Of the five others, four were lesser than a year-old when death occurred and the fifth was four-and-half.

 

Police have registered unnatural death cases against each occurrence said district police chief Kareem. Locals alerted the police when they sensed unusual hurry to carry out the funeral.  

Police took down statements from relatives of the deceased children. The couple’s six children died one after the other at ages :  8 months, 2 months, 40 days, four years, 3 months, 3 months. The couple have no other children.


A body of the third child was autopsied, but came up with doctors found nothing out of ordinary, said the children’s paternal aunt. When the first death occurred, the child’s body was examined at different hospitals but there was nothing unusual, another relative said. Hence, they decided against lodging a complaint, she added.

 

 

The body of the  3-year-old who died this morning and was subsequently buried, has been exhumed. Police await permission for conducting a postmortem to allay their worst fears.
