Pathanamthitta : Tragedy struck pilgrims from South West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh when their bus bound to Sabarimala skidded off road settling on its side. Condition of 9-year-old Manikantan, one of the two critically injured, is said to be serious. Both remain at Kottayam Medical college where they were transported from Pathanamthitta Taluk hospital for specialised care.
The early mornig accident took place near Laha, 40 kms from the hill shrine. There were 44 pilgrims on board, of whom 19 seated on right side of the bus took impact of the accident, some sustaining fractures to their arms or legs.
Police, Fire Force and Motor Vehicle personnel responded to the scene immediately. Health Minister Veena George also reached the spot and directed arrangements for expert medical care.
