Adoor : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the strategic Edamon-Kochi power highway Monday evening, dedicating it to the people of Kerala.
The crucial power project rode on popular public support and the govt spend approx Rs 1000 crore in its buildup, said CM at the inaugural, Monday evening. .
Laden with litigation and owners’ protests, 93 percent of the project lay at its dead end, when the Left came to power in 2016.
There arose considerable opposition from some segments. The govt then adopted persuasive stance to help objectors to see the broader objective.
Special compensatory packages too were formulated and timely disbursements made thereof, to satisfy those whose lands were affected.
The greatest advantage in having the Power Highway is, saving on the huge transmission loss suffered from the existing line given to its fartetched roundabout route, the minister said.
Edamon-Kochi power highway also enables Kerala to draw in power from anywhere in the country via its new transmission network. We can now import up to 2000 KW power from the central pool.

The gpvt seeks continued public support for all its endeavours, in times ahead , said the Chief Minister.The electricity sector is doing extremely well, he added.
