Thiruvananthapuram : Restored to life by the Left govt, the Edamon-Kochi Power Highway becomes a reality today.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, will inaugurate the crucial power corridor today and dedicate it to the state, bringing much awaited respite to its energy crisis. The inaugural function will be held at Green Valley auditorium, Adoor on Monday evening.
The state will now receive 800 MW of additional power from the new 400 KV transmission network.
With power steaming in via the new lines, the state is already experiencing a 2-KW spike in its network.
Subsequently, the imports via inter-state Udumalpet-Palakkad, Mysore –Arikode lines too have been proportionately reduced. Besides, enormous transmission loss owing to earlier rounabout route too has come down significantly.
The crucial project had come to standstill during UDF tenure. Determined to solve the state’s power crisis, the Left govt meticulously removed numerous roadblocks including litigations, compensation to land owners and costs thereon.
From the project’s 148.3 km long lines, 138 km were strung after the present Left govt came to power. Similarly, of the 447 towers in the project, 351 were installed in the present govt’s time alone.
The milestone project Highway costing 1300 crore has become Kerala's dream-come-true, owing to governmental efforts of the past three years.
