Nedukandam : High range is about to embrace non-conventional energy, with Aamapara Solar Project inaugurting on Monday. The project has become a reality owing to tireless efforts of MLA M. M. Mani. State Minister for Electricity, K Krishnankutty will inaugurate the project.
Process of commissioning the project had begun last year. However, there were it was hit with delays owing to Covid conditions. The goal is to produce 3 MW electricity using solar panels. 1 MW shall be produced in the first phase. If that pulls through, capacities shall be upped to generate 3 MW of electricity. A total of 147 solar panels owned by Anert have been laid in the area. The stretch comprises sprawling grasslands with gusty winds and extreme sunshine all through the year which is why it is planned to install large number of wind turbines and solar panels to harness large amounts of electricity.
Power produced here shall be transmitted to Nedukandam sub-station from where the distribution of electricity will take place. Located on the border with Tamil Nadu, this region of Ramakeklmeyd is the perfect stretch for solar and wind energy project. In fact, this is the only region identified in Kerala as conducive to combined production of solar and wind energies. A centre has been set here to study the measure of strong winds, high temperature, humidity and intense sunshine witnessed in the region.
