Kannur : BJP national vice president AP Abdullakutty admitted there occurred corruption relating to “Light and Sound Show”  put up in Kannur Fort, a tourist destination.  He was speaking with news reporters after Vigilance raid at his residence this morning. The Light and Sound Show project was introduced during 2011-16 while Abdullakutty was a UDF MLA. The complaint triggering today’s raid stated there was huge was fraud to the tune of Rs 1 crore for a show that ran for just one day. Abdullakutty said his involvement was limited to suggesting of the project to the then UDF government. The embezzlement was carried out by AP Anil Kumar, the Tourism Minister under Oomen Chandy government.

Vigilance did not conduct any raid and rather carried out only preliminary searches here, said Abdullakutty. In his recall on the controversial show, Abdullakutty said it was indeed he who proposed the project which was subsequently included in the budget too. Prominent leaders including then Chief Minister Oomen Chandy had attended the pompous inaugural of it at Kannur. However, the slated Light and Sound show hardly ran for a week and it was not until recently that I learned the contract was given to a shoddily assembled fake entity, he said. The former Tourism Minister Anil Kumar is responsible for the fraud. The matter should be thoroughly investigated, Abdullakutty added.
