Kochi : The second accused in SFI leader Abhimanyu murder case, surrendered before Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Ernakulam on Monday. Cherthala native Muhammed Shafi(31) from Panavalli, Thrchakulam was later taken into custody by the probe officers.
In the incident, Shafi had stabbed Abhimanyu’s friend Arjun with knife. The prime accused, Marad native Nettor Mekkat Safal(21) who stabbed Abhimanyu to death, is still absconding.
The preliminary hearing of the case had begun with Shafi and Safal’s names excluded in the chargesheet.
Abhimanyu was stabbed to death on 2 July, 2018 at 12.45 past midnight at the road behind Maharaja College campus. SFI student activists Arjun and Vineet also sustained stabs in the incident.
The Campus Front activists had encroached a wall graffitied by SFI to welcome freshers at the college next day. An argument over this led to the killing.
Shafi will be questioned in detail, said SP Suresh ST. The custody period expires in 5 days.
Palluruthi native Shiyaz (23), who grabbed Abhimanyu from behind, to facilitate the kill, had surrendered earlier.
