Kochi : The prime murder accused Sahal Hamsa, who stabbed SFI leader, Abhimanyu, at Maharaja College campus on July 2, 2018, has surrendered before the Ernakulam District Court. Sahal is a worker from Popular Front SDPI and is 10th accused in the case that has 16 people arraigned. The college’s 3rd graduation student, Muhammad, also a Campus Front workers is first accused.
SFI leader M Abimanyu, a 2nd year Chemistry student, was stabbed past midnight when Campus Front workers broke into the college premises. An argument took place over sticking party posters on the college walls to welcome freshers the next day, when two assailants - Sahal and Shahin, pulled out knives and stabbed Abhimanyu first and his friend Arjun.
Arjun survived the attack miraculously and identified the gang culprits. All miscreants fled the scene and the two prime suspects went into hiding raising speculation about their fleeing the country. However, Sahal was nabbed close to 1st anniversary of Abhimanyu’s death. A total of 16 people are arraigned in the case. The trial proceedings began in July of 2019.
