Alappuzha : Piling works for reconstruction of Pallathuruthi bridge - part of AC Road upgradation - will commence today, Monday. Initially the bridge over national water did not gain authority approval Eventually changes were introduced in the renovation plan and permission gained.
With change in plan, the cost fact also changed. The original 36 meter span now measures up 72 meters, which will be built by joining two 36-meter spans. Also there will be a bowstring arch to the bridge.
The project cost was originally 24 crores of the total 672 crores allocated for AC road. Add 24 crores for the Pallathuruthi changed plan and the expenditure rises to 694 crore rupees. Meanwhile, of the three major bridges for renovation, 98 percent of works of the Kitangara and Nedumudi bridges are complete.
