Thiruvananthapuram : KSRTC has just made AC travel affordable in launch of its low-floor Janata Bus services, beginning today. These buses priced low in terms of tickets will initially ply on trial basis between Kollam - Thiruvananthapuram and Kottarakkara - Thiruvananthapuram routes.
Mayor Prasanna Earnest flagged off the first bus from Kollam depot 7 am this morning. The minimum ticket fare is Rs 20. Both services will pass Secretariat road while heading to Thampanoor bus stand.
The KSRTC Janata service focuses on daily commuters including govt officials travelling to in Thiruvananthapuram. Buses from Kollam as well as Kottarakara will arrive at Secretariat by 9:30 am. The return journey is scheduled at 4:45 pm from Thampanoor and, via Women’s College and Bakery Junction, will reach Secretariat’s Contonment Gate at before heading off for Kollam and Kottarakara at 5:00 pm. The buses will reach Kollam and Kottarakara at 7:15 evening after stopping at all halts as that of KSRTC’s Fast passenger.
If trial run proves successful, Janata Bus services would become launched in other parts of the State too - the goal being to afford everyday commuters with AC travel to thier long-distance district offices.
