Adoor : A 42-year old Mavunkal native who was saved by neighbours while attempting to hang himself, committed suicide within minutes by jumping into the well outside. The deceased was identified as Late Kunjappan’s son Anju Ajayan.
The incident took place at Mavunkal Sunday evening. Ajayan went into one of the rooms at his home and prepared the to hang himself by the noose from the ceiling. His mother, the only other person at home, noticed the activity and raised cries for help. Neighbours and relatives rushed to the spot and pulled him to safety. Then, as they spoke to comfort him, Ajayan excused himself saying he wanted to go to bathroom, headed straight out and jumped into the well. A couple of youth jumped after him, but were unable to haul him out. Later, Fire Force arrived at the scene and though they rushed him to the hospital, he had died on arrival.
