NEW DELHI : The Centre has rejected Kerala’s float for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, a repeat of last year scenario.
Kerala offered the tableau themed “Art and Architecture of The State”. Displays in the front portion of the tractor includes the state’s traditional festival, the state’s official animal(elephant), boats loaded with spices and paraphernalia of Ayurveda
The trailer portion bears a prop of Koothambalam – the model of state’s architecture – along with performing arts of the state like Mohiniyattam, Kalaripayattu and theyyam among others against a backdrop of the traditional drum – Chenda. The side portion carries floats on Kathakali, Padayani, Koodiyattam and Ottam Thullal in boats with backwater settings.
As per guidelines for 2020 tableaux, the floats can be themed on any important event from the history of the State, festivals celebrated, architecture of the state, any important social and development scheme or achievement, envicronment or any vision for future can be represented.
In the first stage, sketches on intended theme undergo screening by a committee, which suggests changes to made or shortcomings thereof. Once the sketches are approved, a three-dimensional model has to be submitted for final approval.
According to sources, Kerala made it to the third stage of screening but was eliminated thereafter. The reason behind the rejection is not immediately clear.
