Kochi : In the anticipatory bail plea submitted by Lakshadweep film director Aisha Sultana, the High Court sought response from the island’s Administration, adjourning the case for hearing on Thursday.
Aisha said she received a notice from Kavaratti police station asking to appear before them on Sunday. Meanwhile the complainant has sought to implead himself in the case.
Aisha Sultana approached the High Court after Kavaratti police invoked sedition charges over her controversial remarks relating to Lakshadweep. As a native of Lakshadweep I oppose the reforms being introduced in the Island; the charges against me are baseless, said Aisha in her plea. Sedition charges are not sustainable; no comments to incite communal hatred or conflict was made in those comments, said Aisha further.
Only fair views were expressed in channel chats; I have been wrongly trapped into the case, she stated in the plea.
The complaint alleges that Aisha, during the course of a channel chat, spoke of government deploying “bio-weapon” on the island. The complaint was lodged by BJP unit president there.
