NEW DELHI : Revered poet Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri has been conferred with Njanapedom Award in recognition of his distinguished contribution to Malayalam literature.
Akkitham is the 6th Malayalali to be honored with the prestigious national award.
The Kerala Govt had conferred Ezhuthachan Award to the poet in 2008.
Akkitham's selective works include Irupatham Noottandinte Ithihasam(History of the 20the Century), Venkallinte Katha(Story of the Marble), Balidarshanam(Witnessing Sacrifice ), Kalikottalil(In the Playground), Anchu Nadodikathakal(The Five Folk Songs), Manasapooja(Prayers of the Mind) and Akkithathinte Thiranjedutha Kavithakal(Selected Poems of Akkitham).
Akkitham is also recipient of Padmashree, Kerala Sahithya Academy Award and National Sahithya Academy Award. Jhanpith Award and several other honours.
Akkitham was born in Kumaranelloor in Palakkad district and worked for the All India Radio since 1956.
