Vallikunnam: The casket bearing 15-year-old Abhimanyu took centrestage in Vallikunnam as family, relatives, comrades and villagers bade emotional farewell to the class X, SFI worker slain by RSS.
DYFI State Secretrary AA Raheem, SFI State Secretary Sachindev and other SFI/DYFI leaders received Abhimanyu’s body from Parabhramha Hospital in Ochira 10 am morning. They draped his body with SFI and DYFI flags following which a bike rally escorted the hearse set for Vallikunnam. The procession swelled as it inched forward with comrades and villagers joining to mourn the young martyr. At 12.45 noon, the body was laid in front of CPI(M) Local Committee Office for public homage. Several from districts around the state had come to pay Abhimanyu their last respects. Then at 1.10 pm, the body was once again lifted, laid and set on course - this time to his home in Vallikunnam.

Here, with heartbreaking sobs, father Ambili Kumar and brother Ananthu placed one last kiss on his forehead, after which the body was laid on a pyre set in the home premises. Communist slogans filled the air, as teary eyes took last glimpses of Abhimanyu - a flower that was cruelly snatched away before it could come to bloom.
