Thiruvananthapuram : AN Shamseer has been elected as the new speaker in the election held at Assembly Monday morning. Shamseer clinched the post defeating UDF candidate Anwar Sadat in a 96 - 40 majority. In line with tradition, the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Opposition Leader VD Satheesan led the new Speaker to his Chair.
AN Shamseer, the 24th Speaker of Kerala Assembly, is MLA from Thalassery and member of CPI(M) State Committee. His succession comes in the wake of former Speaker MB Rajesh resigning the post for appointment as minister to replace MV Govindan who moved on to become CPI(M) State Secretary replacing Kodiyeri Balakrishnan who resigned owing to deteriorated health condition.
