Alappuzha :A Andhra native died of drowning after a moored houseboat sank in Alappuzha. The deceased has been identified as Ramachandran aged 55.
The ill-fated boat had tourists on board and had been harboured close to shore overnight, when a portion of the boat became submerged in water. There were four Andhra tourists and the boat’s crew when the mishap occurred.
A plank flooring on the boat cracked wide open, letting water rush inside as the tourists slept. Locals around noticed the boat sinking and quickly responded to the scene in good numbers. It is alleged that, with tourist arrivals in full season, boats without fitness certificate too are being pressed into service.
The police and Fire Force are at the scene and conducting investigations.
