Kochi : It has been possible to weaken   anti-Marxist politics  in Kerala, observed CPI(M) State Conference(Sammelanam) in Kochi. Delegates view  the expansion  of party base as a major accomplishment, said State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan in  press conference at the conclave.

Interventions effected by State Committee both politically and in terms of organisation has proved beneficial. There should be greater focus now  to garner wider   public support.  This party must become the party  of  majority public. The Right wing taking shape in Kerala and the anti-Left communal forces must be exposed for what they are. Strong campaign must be conducted against their attempts to sabotage developmental efforts, said Kodiyeri on the views expressed at  state conference.

Party activities must be charted in order of  priority. State leadership should undertake responsibility toward  political education for new members. Instruction from the delegates also said, there should be special efforts made to address problems of the minorities. The State Committee should make time-bound interventions into  problems cropping regionally, said Kodiyeri.

Initiative should be taken toward building  pro-women Kerala. Gender equality must be ensured. Vigil must be kept against male upper-handedness. A women-friendly atmosphere must be created. All of this should be ensured inside the party.

To meet challenges posed by communal forces, multi-dimensional interventions must be made politically, ideologically and organisationally.  Political discussions must be bolstered. Units at lower level must hold detailed discussions on decisions handed by the upper committees. There should take place frank discussions during meetings. The state centre should be strengthened.  Leaders in more numbers must work at the centre.

There has been no criticism of the State police, said Kodiyeri nor anything to speak of  against the Revenue Dept. Emerging from the conference was reinforcement of unity. There took place open talks about  general problems confronted by  the Kerala community. To have been able to present the vision document for development has been a major achievement, said Kodiyeri.

The chairman heading the welcome group for the conference, P. Rajeev and General Convener, CN Mohanan were also present at the press conference.
