Kannur : Fake news version on Asianet makes hero of a local pest and his goons that attacked DYFI workers in city’s Pannenpara. To hype up, he news reporter weaved up “drug mafia” angle to his story.
The reporter zoomed on “the youth injured in attack with deadly weapons” while conveniently ignoring DYFI workers hospitalised over two days in the incident that took place on Sunday..
On that day, a couple of DYFI workers were standing by the wayside, when a man by the name Altaf, rode his bike straight at them. Incidentally, families in the neighbourhood had complained of Altaf recording images of people on his mobile and DYFI workers had met him and warned against the habit. The locals lodged a police complaint too in this regard.
Altaf was consumed by vengeance over this,,and took a straight run with his bike onto DYFI Meghala Committee member Pranosh. When confronted on the behaviour, Altaf went away, only to return with four others and attack the DYFI workers. DYFI activists Ashwant Rajeevan, K Ashwin and Rishit Ranjit rushed to help but were attacked fiercely as well.
Asianet gave the incident a whole new version, claiming in its fake news that, DYFI members belonging to drug mafia carried out the attack. The real version as told by locals was also captured on camera but was kept conveniently hidden to sail the fake version smooth.
