Kozhikode: Investigators are preparing to engage Childline for testimony of the minor girl - the daughter of a former Asianet employee - believed to have been used by the channel to film its fake video content.
Although police team visited the said employee’s house recently, she refused to let her daughter being spoken to, saying the child was unwell. Following this, the investigation team decided to record the child's statement with ChildLine preent.
The minor girl has reportedly had her hair cropped, giving her a new look. after the FIR was registered.. The makeover is an attempt to claim that the girl is not the minor featuring in the video. In the video, the girl sits her back turned to the camera all through, so only her hairdo is visible to the audience.
The investigation team recently prepared surveillance report after its direct visit to Asianet office for firsthand information. Interrogated so far in the case are : Asianet Executive Editor Sindhu Suryakumar, Resident Editor K Shahjahan, Kannur reporter Naufal bin Yousaf and the girl's mother.
Backdrop: The video titled “Narcotics is a dirty business” was aired in November of 2022 on Asianet channel. A 7th std girl student had featured as victim to drug gang and torture in that interview It since however came to light that girl in this episode was no victim at all and that the narrative she appears to give, is actually voice recording from another interview Asianet had broadcast three months earlier in August.
