Thiruvananthapuram : The Assembly on Tuesday passes Lok Ayukta Amendment Bill. Lok Ayukta is an investigating mechanism rather than a judicial system. Nowhere through the Act is there a mention of it being a judicial system. The High Court has ruled it before that Lok Ayukta should not be considered as being equivalent to a court. Clause 14 therefore cannot be sustained, said Law Minister P. Rajeev, elaborating on the amendment.
The Opposition walked out the Assembly before voting time.
The amendment was effected to Clause 14 of the Lok Ayukta Act that stated a public representative must quit incumbent office when faced with corruption case.
