Ban On News Media Sets Off A Dangerous Trend : CM

Web Desk‌Updated: Sunday Mar 8, 2020

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM :  The  ban by  Ministry of Information and Broadcasting  on Asianet News and Media One is prelude to a dangerous trend, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.  It is like  shattering the mirror because one's ugly face. The media incident signals many more dangers that might be lying ahead,  said CM adding that,  India is currently under a state undeclared emergency.

The  message underlined in the ban is that, if you criticise RSS, lessons would be bitter. It would do good to note here that, that threat would  tomorrow apply to all broadcasters, so every media house toes the line. The RSS agenda is to stop media from reporting facts and thereby  keep realities hidden from the public.  Since coming to power, Sangh Parivar has consistently tore down constitutional establishments to block interventions or kept them on tight reins.

The Ministry cited criticism of RSS and Delhi Police as reasons for ban on Asianet and Media One. Incidentally, how does criticising RSS run against law ?  Wherein a law text would one find RSS described as sacred body ? People have  the right to know of things happening in the country. And, journalists have the right and responsibility to report these matters honestly. Trampling  rights of the two translates to denial of democracy. The Centre should rethink its actions and allow news media the freedom they required to do a honest job , said CM.
