Thiruvananthapuram : Malappuram conman Basit confesses to police that conspiracy against Health Minister’s office was his own handiwork. In his statement to Cantonment police, Basit said the whole gameplan was to swindle Haridas of his money. Basit admitted it was he who added the name of Health Minister’s personal staff in the complaint that Haridas filed with police.
KP Basit hails from Malappuram and is fifth accused in the case. He has been remanded up to 23rd of this month. According to the remand report, Basit defrauded Haridasan of one lakh rupees by promising he would ensure a job for his daughter-in-law in the Health Department. Basit is also booked for conspiracy.
Backdrop: : Initially, Malappuram native Haridasan lodged complaint with police saying he had bribed the Health Minister’s personal staff Akhil Mathew with Rs 1 lakh on promise of a job for his daughter-in-law with the Health Dept. He was duped and lost that money, Haridasan stated in his complaint.
Soon as investigations started, visual evidences emerged that showed Akhil Mathew was districts away when Haridas claimed to have met him with bribe money. The middleman Basit, also a Malappuram native who helped Haridas to lodge the complaint, came under suspicion and the person who impersonated as Health Minister’s staff confessed how they had all conspired to con Haridas.
