Thiruvananthapuram : The court on Friday refused anticipatory bail for dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi and two other women in connection with assault on Youtuber Vijayan P Nair, who posted sexually explicit and derogatory remarks on women on YouTube. Women facing potential arrest are Bhagyalakshmi, social activists Riya Sana and Sreelakshmi.
The Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court delivered the ruling by acknowledging prosecution argument that, allowing such bail to the accused attackers would set unhealthy precedent for such incidents. Bhagyalakshmi and the activist women had raised strong criticisms in the court.
Court bears a responsibility to ensure peace and cannot allow to take people to take law into their own hands by force, the judge observed.
