New Delhi : Biparjoy, classified as ‘very severe cyclonic storm(VSCS) and over northeast of Arabian sea currently, will make landfall in Gujarat today. Over 50,000 lakh people from coastal region have been shifted to shelters in view of ensuing rough seas and heavy rains. According to IMD, Biparjoy is estimated to carry speeds between 115 -125 kmph.
Red alert has been issued to 8 districts including Kutch, Devbhumi, Dwaraka and Jamnagar that’s in pathway of the cyclone. Authorities have advised people to remain indoors. All beaches and harbours are closed. Teams from 18 units of National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in various areas. Several trains have been canceled. Buj Airport has shut down until Friday.
Coastal regions in Gujarat and Maharashtra are witnessing heavy downpour currently. Uprooted trees were reported from Porbandar. Meanwhile, hospitals in Kutch where Biparjoy will make passage, are all geared up for emergency admissions.
