Chandigarh : BJP suffers huge setback in Chandigarh municipal elections with Aam Aadmi bagging 14 of the total 35 seats. BJP scored 12.
The city is administered by Centre and ruled by BJP.. Congress secured 8 seats while Akali Shiromani Akhali Dal won 1. The outcome is however hung with no party securing the 19-mark majority. Still, the results imply a massive blow to BJP with Assembly polls in Punjab on the horizon.
BJP’s sitting Mayor and candidate Ravikant Shama was defeated by AAP’s Damnpreet Singh. BJP losers also include former Mayors Rajesh Kaliya and Davesh Moudgil. BJP lost a total of 4 sitting setats.
The 26 wards in elections of 2016 increased to 35 this time after delimitation.
