Thrissur: The probe team began questioning BJP’s District General Secretary and election candidate in Wadakanchery, Ullas Babu, in connection with the havala money transported into state. He was summoned based on information revealed by the havala money carrier, Dharmaraj.
Ullas reached Thrissur Police Club at 11 am Thursday morning. According to reports, Ullas had reportedly cleared rent arrears of Rs. 50 lakhs in April toward a hotel he runs in Thrissur town. During election days, there was protest march slated in front of the hotel to demand payment of arrears. The strikers agreed to withdraw only after he agreed to pay one installment immediately. However Ullas cleared the entire dues at one go shortly thereafter. Allegation was rife that the lumpsum was havala cash delivered by Dharmaraj. Probe officers also secured information that Dharmaraj met with BJP district leaders at the lodge in Thrissur - a finding that prompted them to pull up Ullas for questioning.
