Aizawl : Police in Mizoram registered FIR against Assam Chief Minister Hmanta Biswa Sarma and six top state officials charging them with attempt to assault and murder. The development marks escalation of tension between the two bordering states over dispute at their perimeters that saw violent clashes of lethal proportions recently.
Those arraigned in the case include Sarma, Assam Police Inspecter General Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Inspector General Devojyoti Mukherjee, Cachar deputy commissioner, Keerthi Jalli, Cachar superintendent of police(former) Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar, forest officer Sunnydo Choudhary, officer incharge of Dholai police station, Sahab Uddin and 20 unidentified Assam police personnel.
The FIR alleges illegal entry of Assam state personnel into its Vairente district and violating Covid protocols under Mizoram Containment and Prevention of Covid-19 Act 2020 along with Indian Penal Code. Sarma and officials have been additionally booked for attempt to murder, concealing design to commit offence, grievous urt, assault and using criminal force against public servants.
All accused including CM were issued notices asking to appear at police station on 1 August.
