Kalpetta : Bathery police registered case aginst K Surendran for allegedly paying  Rs 50 lakhs in bribe  to CK Janu for  contesting election as NDA candidate. The case was booked following order from Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Kalpetta. Former state president to Janadhipathya Rashtriya Party(JRP) , CK Janu, too has been arraigned in the case. According to the complaint, Janu was paid Rs 50 lakhs in two installments to have her contest as NDA candidate from Bathery. As the incident took place in Bathery station limits, the court directed police there to register the case.

JRP treasurer, Praseetha, earlier came out with revelations of K Surendran delivering lumpsum to CK Janu at Hotel Horizon in Thiruvananthapuram, where they had arrived to receive the money in March. Praseetha also released voice recording of phone conversations in evidence of that transaction - all of which were considered by court while  issuing order toward booking the duo.

The complaint states the reward was handed without disclosing source to the money and further accused Janu for accepting such  sum. The alleged acts  amount to violation of code of conduct. The accused will be brought in for questioning after taking witness statements, said the police. K Surendran is  being separately probed by Crime Branch for bribing BSP’s Manjeshwaram candidate to withdraw his nomination.
