Thrissur : Fireballs whirled over teak tree tops as tens of thousands watched sample fireworks of Thrissur pooram fill the air. The fiery display was a window to dozens scheduled for the 7-day festival expected to bring lakhs to the precincts of Vadakmnadhan temple grounds two days from now.
Thiruambadi segment lit the first of sample displays at 7:25 pm, after a prior inch-by-inch inspection of the venue. The fiery treat, starting with palm crackers, rounders, pit blaxe, lasted three minutes straight up in the air.
The Paremelkauv group was second to light up display - their sample treat lasting five minutes. The Paremelkav highlight was its “Siverfish” that opened steadily in its ascend to the sky and then fanned out akin to branches of a tree. The special “Amit” bomb was tricoloured proved to be the biggest hit - a tribute to RRR that fetched Oscar.
Apart from special displays, both Thiruambadi and Paremelkauv groups lit up traditional blazes of Amits, the red snake and the all-time favorite Red Alert that rained the skies. With secrets kept each unto themselves, the two groups will light up the skies in the best of displays yet, beginning 3.30 pm on May Day.
