Buffer Zone: 26,030 Complaints Received So Far; Last Date 7 Dec

Thiruvananthapuram  :The Forest Departmen,t, as on Tuesday,, recoeved 26,030 complaints on structures found missing on buffer zone map. The last date to submit complaint ends this Saturday.

Verification and other follow-up action  with regard to each complaint shall be done via  concerned local body. The government decision is to include survey numbers of all structures in the map and resolve everybody’s grievances.

Over an above the satellite survey,  field level surveys are also being conducted. Information on 1044 locations obtained in survey has been uploaded on mobile application  prepared by the Kerala State Remote Sensing and Environment Centre(KSREAC).

More complaints - a total of 5203 -  were received from Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary of which 4240 pertain to Chakkittapara panchayat. Complaints received from other regions are : panchayats of Peezhy, Vazhani, Chimmini and Chulannur Wildlife Sanctuary figured at 6133.  Complaints from  other regions are  panchayats of Peachy, Vazhani, Chimmini and Chulannur wildlife sanctuaries. Parambikulam-- -1507, Wayanad-- 1445, Idukki--4204, Neyyar--851, -Pepara--672, Aralam, Kottiyur--1199, Malabar--5203, Mangalavanam--0, Karimpuzha--2, Munnar –-3097, Senthuruni--779, Thattekad--750, Periyar--16  and  Silentwali--172 .

Backdrop : A total of 85 panchayats are marked  inside eco-sensitive zone. The Supreme Court is scheduled to  hear the buffer zone petitions on 11th.
