Kochi : Three accused in the Kalamassery bus-burning case have been sentenced to 7 years in jail. The convicts , Thandiyantevide Naseer and Sabeer are also required to pay a fine of Rs 1,75,000 each and Tajudeen Rs 1,10,000 in addition to their prison sentences.
The sentencing came without completion of entire trial, when the trio admitted guilt relating to charges mounted by the NIA. The case has 13 accused including Sufia Madani, the wife of Abdul Nasar Madani. Of these, the 5th accused, Anoop was convicted earlier after he confessed to crime. For the rest, who continue to deny guilt, the trial is set to begin soon.
According to the prosecution, the accused men met at Aluva Masjid in September of 2005, at the instance of accused Majid Parambal and Sufia, wife of Abdul Nasarir Madani, and plotted to set afire the bus operated by Tamil Nadu. They later carried out their plan. The act was motivated by aim to seek larger support for release of Abdul Nasir Madani who was detained in Coimbatore jail.
