Pathanamthitta : Results of 29 local body bypolls have been declared. LDF wins 12 seats, UDF 15 and NDA 2.
The sole District Panchayat Division up for grabs was won by LDF – the Pulikeezh Division of Pathanamthitta District Panchayat. The win amounted to retention of its seating seat. At ward 14 in the Opposition Leader’s constituency of Paravur, LDF grabbed the sitting BJP seat, where LDF’s Nimisha Jinesh(Nimmi) won with 160 vote majority.
Ernakulam
UDF bagged majority in Ernakulam’s Keerambara panchayat. In the bypolls held in Ward 6, UDF’s Sandy Jose won by 41 votes. Here, the byelection was necessitated after independent member Sheeba was disqualified. She had won elections as independent and went on to become the Vice President after declaring her support for UDF. In the 13-member panchayat, LDF and UDF have 6 representations each. That figure for UDF has just risen to 7 after today’s victory.
There were five candidates in the fray. Sandy Jose(UDF- 252), Rani Roy(LDF -211), Raju Ravi(NDA – 5), suvarna Santhosh(Aam Admi Party – 96), Rani Joshi(Indepndent – 2).
LDF candidate Nimisha Maneesh won with a 160-vote majority, dislodging incumbent BJP candidate from the seat. The seat had fell vacant after BJP councilor KL Swapna resigned on personal grounds. Thus the 29-member council currently comprises 10 LDF councilors, UDF 15, BJP 3 and Independent 1. There were three candidates in the just- concluded bypolls – Nimisha(LDF 448), Remya Rajeev(NDA 288), Rekha Dasan(UDF 207).
UDF’s Monci Paul won 15th ward of Puthrika panchayat scoring vote lead of 135.
Idukki
LDF candidate EK Babu won Shantanpara Thottikanam bypolls securing 253-vote majority.
In Kanjikuzhi, LDF candidate PB Dinamany won with 92-vote lead.
UDF grabbed LDF’s sitting seat of Eladesam Block panchayat division.
Malappuram
LDF won Mallapuram municipal ward of Kainode where its canddidate C Shiju won with a margin of 12 votes
